5 Tips to Stay Healthy in College

Living away from home for the first time can be exciting and full of new adventures. It can be hard though to keep up with healthy habit sand to motivate yourself without your family there to support you. Eating right and setting exercise/fitness goals for yourself is a great start to staying healthy in college. Plus you can help fight off gaining the dreaded freshman fifteen and gain healthy habits to keep up even after college. Here are five tips to help you stay active and healthy in college:

Eat Healthy

While it might be tempting to only live on pizza, snacks, and desserts but it can cause major damage to your waistline. Try limiting your junk food intake until the weekend when you are hanging out with your friends. Then try to eat it in moderation. Avoid some of the temptation by eating a healthy dinner before.

Drink Lots of Water

Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body healthy and avoid dehydration. It will help you stay focused and ward off any headache caused by dehydration. Avoid sugary drinks or too much caffeine that will spike your blood sugar and lead to a unpleasant sugar crash. Bring a water bottle with you to class to help you avoid spending money on drink and remind you to stay hydrated.

Avoid Binge Drinking

While it might sound fun to go out with your friends and have a few drinks…or lots but it’s not good for your body or mind. You can even doing serious damage to your body both internally and externally by accidents you might have while drunk. If you are going to drink, be sure to limit yourself and drink plenty of water all night. A good rule of thumb is to drink one glass of water per every drink.

Walk to Class

If you live on campus or close by, start walking to classes instead of driving or taking the bus. That way you can squeeze in some exercise time without having to change your schedule. Plus it will give you some alone time away from your noisy dorm or annoying roommate. Use the time to clear your head and get mentally prepared to focus in class.

Exercise in Your Dorm Room
